Our Impressions

Having started our drive from NYC at 5 AM, with a 6-hour with bathroom stops, we arrived at the trailhead around 1 PM. The plan was to pick a moderate hike around 4 miles long so that we don’t exhaust ourselves before the treacherous climb to Mout Washington planned for the following day.

We did end up getting the 4-miler, but it definitely was far from moderate. Despite being comparatively low in elevation by White Mountains standards, the hike was quite a challenge, with some areas of rock scrambling, and very worthwhile. The views from the summits are 360 degrees of panoramic gorgeousness!

The day started out a bit cloudy but turned into a gorgeous sunny summer day. At the summit, I had to do a Shavasana or Corpse Pose for those familiar with yoga. For the non-yoga practitioners, I played dead for 15 minutes while enjoying the warm sun beating on my body.

Tip for hiking in the summer: don’t forget to wear bug spray!

Tip for this hike: do this loop in the counterclockwise direction.
